Why this is the word of the week: It describes the way I function usually. It explains why I like the library so much.

Why this is relevant in a greater context: We are shifting from a linear pattern of thought  to one that is, well non-linear. This appears to be primarily because of the internet (though the chicken or the egg argument must apply- did we create the internet or is the internet creating us?). This is not to be mistaken for headline news, in fact it is the gist of one of the books that inspired this project, The Gutenberg Galaxy.

Use the library as a resource to write a report on pens. Possibility: Try to find and use the types of pens described to write up the relevant parts of the report. (I had this idea because I used to be a professional pen saleswoman and am embarrassed to admit how much about pens I’ve forgotten. So pen report would be not only to refresh memory but to learn more about something I really like.)

The artist is currently an MFA student at California State University, Long Beach. The first book she ever read was about telling time. If she had to choose a desert island book she would consolidate the original Oz series by L. Frank Baum into one volume and bring that. She highly recommends smelling the inside of books as well as reading them. She also recommends looking closely at the copyright page. She loves the library because being around a lot of books helps to alleviate her generalized human anxiety.

When she is not in class, at work, or in the studio she might be reading, staring into space, swimming or watching her cat Monkey tear at corrugated cardboard.
